The invention relates to the autonomous operation of a vehicle (1) within a safe working region. Among others, a processor unit (2) is proposed that comprises an interface (6) via which the processor unit (2) can access the position of the vehicle (1), said position being determined by a position determining module (3) using a global positioning process, and a vehicle (1) surroundings detection generated by a sensor unit (7). The processor unit (4) is designed to control the vehicle (1) on the basis of the vehicle (1) position determined by the global positioning process and on the basis of the vehicle (1) surroundings detection generated by the sensor unit (7). For example, the processor unit (4) can check whether the position determined by the position determining module (3) is located within a working region (2) in a first checking step, wherein the working region (2) is defined as a safe autonomous working region of the vehicle (1). Furthermore, the processor unit (4) can be designed to check whether the detection of the surroundings images at least one potential collision object (12) in a second checking step and to control the vehicle (1) on the basis of the results of both checking steps. The invention also relates to a corresponding system, to a method, to a computer program product (8), and to a vehicle (1).
