The invention discloses a vertical take-off and landing unmanned aerial vehicle with foldable wings and a control method thereof. The unmanned aerial vehicle comprises a fuselage, a first wing, a second wing, a folding mechanism, a first power unit, a second power unit and a fuselage undercarriage. The first wing and the second wing are the same in structure and each comprise a wing body, a first wing undercarriage and a second wing undercarriage. The folding mechanism comprises a hinge, a driving gear, a driven gear and a wing folding steering engine; the first power unit and the second power unit are the same in structure and each comprise a shell, a motor and a propeller; and the fuselage undercarriage comprises a connecting column and a universal wheel. The advantages of a traditional fixed-wing unmanned aerial vehicle and a traditional multi-rotor unmanned aerial vehicle are combined, vertical take-off and landing and rapid and efficient route flight can be achieved, and robust control can be provided for a single wing, a fixed wing and mutual conversion between the single wing and fixed wing.
