The invention relates to an automatic opening and closing control device and method for a charging port cover. The device comprises a charging gun in-place detection device, a gun cabinet controller, a control signal transmitting device, a signal induction receiving device and a charging port cover controller. The charging gun in-place detection device is in electric signal connection with one end of the gun cabinet controller, and the other end of the gun cabinet controller is in electric signal connection with the control signal transmitting device; the signal induction receiving device is in electric signal connection with the charging port cover controller; the control signal transmitting device is in wireless connection with the signal induction receiving device, and the charging port cover controller is used for receiving a charging port cover control signal sent by the signal induction receiving device so as to control a vehicle charging port cover to be opened or closed. The charging port cover is automatically opened by detecting the in-place state of the charging gun; the problem that in the prior art, a vehicle needing to be charged cannot be accurately matched, and consequently a charging port cover of other vehicles is opened mistakenly is solved.
