The invention discloses a tensioning device for an elevator speed limiter. The tensioning device solves the problem that an existing tensioning device is poor in tensioning effect. A parallelogram structure is formed by a first rod, a second rod, a transmission frame and the like; and a tensioning motor is used for driving a pressing wheel to move in the X direction, and therefore a steel wire rope is kept tensioned, and the tensioning effect is greatly improved. Through a damping device, the problem that the existing tensioning device is clamped due to the too large swing amplitude of the steel wire rope in the using process is solved. The damping device absorbs vibration caused by swing of the steel wire rope, the steel wire rope swings to drive a flat plate to move in the X direction, a spring D deforms, a rack is engaged with a first gear, the first gear is engaged with a second gear, a spring B deforms, the second gear drives a sliding rod to move along a supporting plate, a spring C deforms, and therefore vibration energy is rapidly converted into kinetic energy of the first gear, the second gear and the like, and the whole tensioning device is prevented from being clamped through elastic potential energy of the spring B, the spring C and the spring D.
