The present invention achieves a steering column structure in which the axial sliding resistance between an inner column and an outer column is easily caused to fall within an appropriate range. The present invention is provided with an inner column (24), an outer column (25a), and a column-side bracket (26a). The outer column (25a) has: a front small-diameter cylindrical portion (37a) which is a pressed-in portion into which the inner column (24) is to be press-fitted on the inner diameter side; and a front large-diameter cylindrical portion (67) and a large-diameter cylindrical portion (38a) which are arranged at places axially adjacent to the front small-diameter cylindrical portion (37a) and which are adjacent large-diameter portions having inner diameters larger than the inner diameter of the front-side small-diameter cylindrical portion (37a). The inner peripheral surface of the front small-diameter cylindrical portion (37a) and the outer peripheral surface of the inner column (24) are in contact with each other only at a plurality of circumferentially spaced contact places and are interference fit. While at least partially disposed on the outer diameter side of the front small-diameter cylindrical portion (37a), the column-side bracket (26a) is welded to the outer peripheral surfaces of the front large-diameter cylindrical portion (67) and the large-diameter cylindrical portion (38a) by weld beads (50).
