The present invention relates to a patch (100) for repairing a structure (180) having a defect (182). The defect (182) has a topography, and the patch (100) comprises a patch body (102) at least partially of metal; a bonding surface (104) compatible with the morphology of the defect (182); and a patch surface (106) opposite to the bonding surface (104), wherein the patch (100) has a variable porosity and a set of material characteristics, and at least one material property of the set of material properties varies due to the variable porosity.
