The invention relates to an elevator hoistway arrangement structure. The elevator hoistway arrangement structure comprises a counterweight system, a lift car system and a traction machine which are arranged in an elevator hoistway, the traction machine is used for driving a lift car of the lift car system to ascend and descend, the counterweight system comprises counterweight guide rails, a counterweight frame, a speed limiter, a speed limiter steel wire rope and a tensioning device, the counterweight frame can ascend and descend in the counterweight guide rails, and a counterweight lifting device is arranged at the bottom of the counterweight frame; a main machine beam used for installing the traction machine is arranged at the tops of the counterweight guide rails, and the speed limiteris arranged above the traction machine or installed on the main machine beam side by side with the traction machine; from the overlooking angle, the side, close to the main machine beam, of the speedlimiter coincides with the main machine beam, and the coinciding area exceeds half of the cross sectional area of the speed limiter; and the upper part of the speed limiter steel wire rope winds around the speed limiter, the lower part of the speed limiter steel wire rope winds around the tensioning device, and the joint is connected with the counterweight lifting device to form a closed chain. The transverse space width occupied by the speed limiter can be reduced, and therefore the design of the hoistway width can be reduced, and the hoistway plane utilization rate is increased.
