The invention belongs to the technical field of intelligent control and information recognition processing, and particularly relates to an escalator safety protection system and a working method thereof. The escalator safety protection system comprises an escalator body, a detection device, a protection device and a main control module; the detection device is positioned below a floor plate and detects whether an object falls to a position below the floor plate or not; the protection device is located below the floor plate so as to buffer and protect the falling object; and the main control module is used for receiving a detection signal from the detection module and controlling the protection module to operate. According to the escalator safety protection system and the working method thereof, the detection device is used for detecting whether the object falls to the position below the floor plate or not; the protection device is used for emergency protection measures given when accident occurs; an alarm device is used for warning passengers to avoid injury caused by accidents; and a communication device can transmit the signal detected by the detection device to a monitoring terminal connected with a server, and therefore a worker can advantageously carry out overhaul or rescue in the first time.
