The invention relates to a method of determining a current through a compressor suction valve in a vehicle air conditioning system. An example method of determining a current through a compressor suction valve in a vehicle air conditioning (AC) system is disclosed, the AC system including an evaporator fan, the method including determining a speed of the evaporator fan, and determining the currentthrough the suction valve based on the speed of the evaporator fan.
