An electrical system enhancer for an electrical system. The electrical system comprises a chemical storage battery. The enhancer comprises an ultra-capacitor array and an intelligent trickle chargingcircuit. And the super capacitor array is controllably and switchably electrically connected to the chemical storage battery under the control of the trickle charging circuit. Further, a method of enhancing performance of an electrical system of a vehicle by interconnecting a battery of the vehicle with an array of ultracapacitors is disclosed; the supercapacitor array is controllably, switchablyelectrically connected to the vehicle chemical battery by means of a smart trickle charging circuit. In a particular preferred form, the trickle charging circuit includes a microprocessor programmed to connect the chemical battery to the ultra-capacitor array and disconnect the chemical battery from the ultra-capacitor array under predefined conditions while maintaining an electrical connection between the battery and the trickle charging circuit.
