The invention relates to an elevator car running state recognition system and method. The elevator car running state recognition system comprises a hoisting rope sensor and a running state recognitioncontrol unit, wherein the hoisting rope sensor collects the running data of an elevator car (J) by monitoring the running state of an elevator hoisting rope, and the running data of the elevator car(J) comprises the running stroke and/or running speed of the elevator car (J); the hoisting rope sensor comprises a fixed pulley and a rotating shaft; a running state recognition control unit is connected with the hoisting rope sensor so as to receive the elevator car (J) running data collected by the hoisting rope sensor and carry out processing and analysis; the running state recognition controlunit comprises a central main control module used for monitoring, analyzing and calculating the running data of the elevator car (J), a memory used for storing related data and a network communication module used for achieving data transmission. According to the system and the method, the running state information of the elevator car (J) can be effectively collected, the related operation state can be identified, and the system and the method can be universally applied to different models of elevators.
