The invention discloses a nozzle submerging type water-jet propeller capable of backing up and a working method thereof, and belongs to the field of water-jet propulsion. The propeller comprises an impeller, blades mounted on the impeller and an impeller driving motor. The impeller driving motor is a forward and reverse operation motor, and a blade angle adjuster is mounted in the impeller. When the water-jet propeller operates forwards, the forward and reverse operation motor rotates forwards, angles of the impeller blades are kept unchanged, and a ship sails forwards. During reverse operation, the forward and reverse operation motor rotates reversely, the impeller blades rotate by 180 degrees through the blade angle adjuster, and the ship backs up. A current situation that backing up canbe achieved only by means of a back up device originally is avoided, a large space is saved for the ship, and the weight of the ship is reduced; meanwhile, a hydraulic control system is removed, andthe structure of the whole water-jet propeller is greatly simplified.
