The invention belongs to the technical field of intelligent transportation, and particularly relates to a traffic flow detection system and method based on geomagnetic sensing spikes. The system comprises a plurality of spikes which are pre-embedded in a road section in groups according to the cross section of a road, and each group of spikes comprise lamplight induction type spikes arranged on the boundaries of the two sides of each channel of the road section and geomagnetic sensing type spikes arranged in the middle of each channel and used for sensing passing of vehicles; each group of spikes are connected into a gateway of a server system through a repeater matched with the spikes, each repeater is connected with the gateway in a time-sharing sending mode, and the repeater calculatesthe vehicle speed, the flow and the vehicle type according to the sensing data of the geomagnetic sensing type spikes of the corresponding group and uploads the vehicle speed, the flow and the vehicletype to the gateway in a packaging mode.
