The invention relates to a traffic flow monitoring system and method based on pressure sensing. The traffic flow monitoring system comprises a cloud platform data management system, a lithium batterymodule and an intelligent well lid module arranged on a well lid. The lithium battery module is connected with the intelligent well lid module and provides electric energy for the intelligent well lidmodule. The intelligent well lid module is used for receiving and processing vehicle flow data RX passing through the well lid, and the cloud platform data management system is used for recording thevehicle flow data RX. The method is applied to a municipal well lid system spreading all over urban roads, a traffic big data three-dimensional network is constructed through online detection of traffic flow, real-time data analysis, point-to-line and line-to-plane formation, and big data support is provided for effectively relieving urban traffic congestion.
