The invention provides a method of controlling a battery system of an electric vehicle. The battery system comprises a plurality of battery packs; each battery pack comprises a pressure sensor and a plurality of battery units which are electrically connected together. The method is characterized by further comprising the following steps: detecting a thermal event at least based on a signal from the pressure sensor of the first battery pack in the plurality of battery packs; in response to the detected thermal event, cooling the first battery back to a second battery pack of more than the plurality of battery packs.
