The present invention describes a manpower-driving vessel or land vehicle. The vessel or land vehicle may have two pedals that reciprocate, where the reciprocating motion is a linear or slightly curved trajectory but not a circular motion. When the two pedals reciprocate, push the left pedal forward or the right pedal forward so that an output shaft rotates clockwise or counterclockwise. The output shaft may be connected to the propeller of the vessel or land vehicle to advance the vessel or land vehicle forward. The output shaft can receive rotational input through two gears mounted to the output shaft via a one-way bearing; the one-way bearing enables the output shaft to rotate in the same direction regardless of whether the left pedal or the right pedal is pushed forward.
