An elevator guide rail machining apparatus includes a frame, a cylindrical machining tool for machining a braking surface of a guide rail, and at least one guide roller bringing an outer peripheral surface of the machining tool into parallel contact with the braking surface. When lifting or lowering the frame from a state in which the frame is suspended by a suspension member, a direction in whichthe guide roller rolls on the braking surface and which is perpendicular to the rotation axis of the guide roller is taken as the direction of rotation of the guide roller. The direction of rotationof the at least one guide roller is inclined with respect to the longitudinal direction of the guide rail.
