A rotary electrical machine provided with a stator, and a rotor having a rotor core (252) provided to the stator so that a gap is present, the rotor being provided with a magnet insertion hole and a permanent magnet (254) inserted into the magnet insertion hole; wherein a relief part (263) having a facing surface (266) formed so as to face the surface of the permanent magnet (254) with a gap present therebetween is provided at a portion of the magnet insertion hole corresponding to a corner part of the permanent magnet (254); the facing surface (266) of the relief part (263) has inflection points (264a-264d); and angles (267a, 267b) flanking two facing surfaces continuous with each of the inflection points (264b, 264c) are both formed to be obtuse.
