The invention provides a driving device for electric bicycles. The driving device comprises a hollow shell and a main shaft penetrating through the shell. At least two groups of motor units are installed in the shell. Each group of the motor units comprises a support frame, an internal tooth ring and a plurality of motors installed on the support frame, wherein each motor is engaged with the internal tooth ring through a transmission mechanism, and the internal tooth ring is embedded in the inner wall of the shell. The main shaft penetrates through each support frame and the motors drive the transmission mechanisms and further drive the shell to rotate around the main shaft. The driving device for electric bicycles is characterized in that the multiple minisize direct current brushless motors are used for synchronous driving and the generation of the maximum power density of an electric bicycle system is guaranteed by locating and installing the multiple minisize motors in the gear system. The multiple minisize motors can be connected in series mutually and share one controller, and thus a safe and reliable operation system with a lower cost can be provided. By staggering the peak values of the cogging torque of the motors, the cogging torque of the whole driving device can be effectively reduced and the no-load resistance of electric bicycles can be reduced.
