Sideways toppling resistance performance upon application of shock load from a diagonally lateral direction of a vehicle is increased so as to achieve shock energy absorption performance with increased stability. Of a plurality of ridge lines of a tubular member (22), only upper and lower ridge line portions (40, 42) on the outer side in a vehicle width direction are provided with flanges (48, 50) along the entire length in an axial direction of the tubular member (22). Thus, the rigidity of the outer side portions of the tubular member (22) in the vehicle width direction with respect to compressive load is increased. Accordingly, even in the event of offset collision where shock load is applied from diagonally outside the vehicle, the moment load toward the inside of the vehicle is decreased, whereby sideways toppling can be suppressed and excellent shock energy absorption performance can be stably obtained.
