The invention discloses a public traffic service system. The public traffic service system comprises a public traffic server and ID card recognizers respectively arranged on each bus, and ID card recognizers respectively arranged at each subway station, wherein the public traffic server is provided with databases, the databases comprise a bus database and a subway database, and the databases are used for storing passenger flow information of stations and bus and subway line information. The invention further discloses a method used for calculating public traffic paths. Through establishing the bus and subway databases, statistics of travel time of all paths between destinations and starting places can be realized, taking regard of vehicle waiting time and a congestion rate, the optimum path calculation method which is more practical is provided.
