The invention relates to a method for introducing a bearing means (9) of an elevator into an elevator system (1) and to a bearing means brake device (20) for controlling a drawing-in speed of the bearing means (9) when introducing the bearing means into the elevator system (1). In the process, the bearing means (9) is provided in a wound state on a bearing means roller (12) in a floor (3) or in a machine area (17) of the building, and the bearing means (9) is unwound from the bearing means roller (12) and introduced into a shaft (2) of the elevator system (1). A bearing means brake device (20) is arranged between the bearing means roller (12) and the shaft (2), and a drawing-in speed of the bearing means (9) is adjusted by means of the bearing means brake device (20). The bearing means brake device (20) for controlling the drawing-in speed of a bearing means (9) when introducing the bearing means (9) into an elevator system (1) contains a traction disk (21) for receiving the bearing means (9). The traction disk (21) is rotatably mounted in a support frame (22) so that the bearing means (9) can at least partly loop around the traction disk (21). The traction disk (21) is braked by means of a brake device (23), whereby the drawing-in speed can be controlled.
