The invention belongs to the technical field of elevator safety design, and discloses an automatic distress system for a person trapped in an elevator. The automatic distress system comprises a falling protection controller, a power supply, a gravitational acceleration sensor, a wireless signal alarm, a stress sensor, a wire harness, high-pressure air cushions and high-pressure springs, wherein the falling protection controller, the power supply, the gravitational acceleration sensor and the wireless signal alarm are sequentially arranged on the upper surface of the top of a cab, the stress sensor is arranged on the lower surface of the top of the cab, and the high-pressure air cushions and the high-pressure springs are arranged at the bottom of the cab. When detecting that the cab falls through the gravitational acceleration sensor, the falling protection controller controls the wireless signal alarm to be switched on to inform a rescue worker to arrive on the scene in time. The automatic distress system is reasonable in design, simple in structure and suitable for optimization design of vertical elevator falling loss reduction systems.
