The invention discloses a method for monitoring the abrasion of an elevator band-type brake. According to the method, based on the special mechanical movement principle and the geometry relation of the structure of the band-type brake, monitoring of the abrasion of the band-type brake is ingeniously converted into monitoring of the position of a band-type brake arm, whether the braking force of the band-type brake is insufficient or not is judged by monitoring displacement of excessive movement, caused by the abrasion of the band-type brake, of the band-type brake arm, and thus elevator safety accidents caused by insufficient braking of the band-type brake are prevented. A pull wire displacement sensor is used in a system for monitoring the displacement of the band-type brake arm, and the pull wire displacement sensor has the advantages of being convenient to install, high in accuracy and anti-interference capability and resistant to dirt. A display control box is used for converting band-type brake arm displacement data transmitted in by the pull wire displacement sensor through a USB interface into the abrasion amount of a brake shoe according to the geometry position relation, and the abrasion amount of the brake shoe is recorded on a chip and displayed through a display screen. Once the abrasion of the brake shoe exceeds the limit or the brake shoe does not disengage from a brake wheel completely in the normal operation process of an elevator, the display control box sends out a signal to an elevator control mainboard to stop operation of the elevator, and an elevator monitoring center is alarmed through a remote monitoring module.
