The invention relates to an automatic escalator control method and system. The system comprises a first controller, a first contactor, a second contactor, a second controller, a third contactor, a fourth contactor and a frequency converter, wherein the first controller, the first contactor and the second contactor are arranged on a first escalator, and the second controller, the third contactor and the fourth contactor are arranged on a second escalator. The first contactor and the second contactor are interlocked electrically and mechanically. The third contactor and the fourth contactor are interlocked electrically and mechanically. The frequency converter is connected with the first controller, the second controller, the second contactor and the fourth contactor. The first contactor and the second contactor are connected with the first controller. The third contactor and the fourth contactor are connected with the second controller. The first controller and the second controller are connected with a first access and a second access separately or at the same time by controlling the suction state of the corresponding contactors. When the first access is connected, the first escalator operates in a frequency conversion manner. When the second access is connected, the second escalator operates in a frequency conversion manner.
