In a method for identifying a danger zone (20) to be monitored at a grade crossing, the following are performed: at least one radar sensor (10) is situated at the danger zone (20); object trajectories (34) from sequences over time of object positions of respective objects (30) moving through the danger zone (20) are ascertained by the radar sensor (10); the position of at least one traffic path (40;42;44;46;48)is identified with the aid of an accumulation (36) of object trajectories (34); the positions of barrier straight lines (37) are ascertained with the aid of radar reflections of the closed barriers; and the danger zone (20) is determined by linking information on the identified position of the at least one traffic path (40;42;44;46;48) with information on the ascertained position of the barrier straight lines (37).
