The invention provides a vehicle tracking system which comprises a base station and a server. The base station is provided with an inspection point and used for reading vehicle information in an electronic tag of a vehicle passing through the inspection point, and making a comparison between the vehicle information and data in a preset stolen vehicle database, and if the vehicle is the stolen vehicle, the base station sends out chasing signals and outputs position information of the stolen vehicle. The server is used for receiving the information of a stolen vehicle and forming the stolen vehicle database, outputting the stolen vehicle database to the base station, establishing a running track of the stolen vehicle according to the position information output by the base station, and tracking the stolen vehicle by analyzing the running track. Therefore, effective deterrence can be performed on the vehicle theft behavior, and vehicle theft incidents can be reduced.
