The invention relates to a gear shift mechanism for a motorcycle. The gear shift mechanism comprises an input shaft, an output shaft, one or more gear transmission groups which are connected with the input shaft and output shaft, a shifting fork, and a shifting fork cam driving the shifting fork to move, wherein each gear transmission group comprises an input gear arranged on the input shaft, and an output gear arranged on the output shaft, and the input gear and the output gear respectively comprise a first gear input gear and a first gear output gear; a transmission gear which can be connected with the first gear output gear is arranged on the output shaft, locking grooves are formed in the output shaft, unlocking holes are formed in the transmission gear corresponding to the locking grooves, steel balls are arranged between the unlocking holes and the locking grooves, the height of the steel balls is higher than the depth of the locking grooves, and the depth of the unlocking holes is greater than the height of the steel balls. According to the gear shift mechanism disclosed by the invention, the proper operation of entering 1-gear state, 2-gear state and 3-gear state sequentially and necessarily is ensured through reasonable arrangement of the structure, faulty operation of users can be prevented, and the safety of staff and the motorcycle is ensured.
