Obtained is a structure for a support bracket which, although consisting of a metallic plate, has sufficient strength and rigidity and which is sufficiently low cost achieved while the yield rate of the material is kept at a satisfactory level. A support bracket (14a) which supports in a pivotable and displaceable manner the front end of a steering column (6a) through the housing (9a) of an electric power steering device is formed by subjecting a metallic plate to punching and bending by press working. The dimension and direction of bending of each part are devised, and as a result, the yield rate of the material is improved while dimensions including the height of a first side plate section (19) and a second side plate section (20) are ensured, the dimensions being necessary to ensure the rigidity for supporting a heavy object.
