The invention discloses a system and method for recognizing elevator buttons. The system comprises an ID setting module and a button module. One end of the ID setting module is connected with the button module in an SPI communication mode, and the other end of the ID setting module is connected with an external device through a CAN bus. The button module comprises multiple buttons which are connected in the SPI communication mode. The method comprises the steps that the ID setting module is used for setting the ID numbers of the buttons in the button module; in use, after one button is pressed, the button sends the ID number data of the button to the ID setting module through SPI, the ID setting module displays the ID number data of the button and converts the ID number data to CAN data, and the CAN data is sent to a lift car communication board or an elevator main control panel; and the elevator main control panel recognizes the pressed button according to the received CAN data and sends out a corresponding instruction. By means of the system and method for recognizing the elevator buttons, the number of wires for connection of the elevator buttons can be reduced, the structure of the whole elevator system is simplified, and maintenance is facilitated.
