The invention relates to a vibration damper for horizontal vibration of a high-speed elevator and application of the vibration damper. The vibration damper comprises an acceleration sensor, a controller, a hydraulic power unit, a high-speed switching valve and a hydraulic cylinder; and the acceleration sensor is connected with the controller, and the controller is connected with the high-speed switching valve so as to control running of the high-speed switching valve, and the high-speed switching valve is connected with the hydraulic power unit and the hydraulic cylinder. As for the condition of the horizontal vibration in the running process of the high-speed elevator, a vibration damping system with the hydraulic cylinder, the controller and the acceleration sensor for collecting vibration signals is adopted, the hydraulic cylinder, the controller and the acceleration sensor are matched with each other, and the pressure of oil in the hydraulic cylinder is adjusted through the vibration damping system, so that active force within a wider scope is output, and the aims of rapidly compensating for guide rail deformation and absorbing vibration energy are achieved. The vibration damper is ingenious in design, convenient to install and use and obvious in vibration damping effect of the high-speed elevator, the riding comfort is improved, and the vibration damper has the good application and popularization value.
