The present invention relates to a steering apparatus (1) in an automobile. The apparatus comprises at least one rack (13) and at least one computing unit (8) which has at least one module (10) for evaluating rack force (FZ). A shaft model (9) of the automobile is stored in the computing unit or another computing unit, and is configured to determine at least on driving torque (MA) on at least one drive shaft (3a, 3b) of the steering apparatus (1) according to data of a drive chain and to determine disturbing force (FS) based on a steering torque of a twisting force. The model (10) for evaluating the rack force (FZ) is configured to evaluate the rack force (FZ) in the case of consideration of the disturbing force (FS) determined based on the steering torque of the twisting force. The present invention also relates to a method for evaluating the rack force (FZ).
