The invention provides a system using compressed air as an automobile power source in an economical mode and a method thereof. The system comprises a compressed air power device, a compressed air production and storage feeding mechanism, a braking energy recycling and regenerating device, an inner gear ring assembly, a clutch transmission device and a controller. The compressed air power device comprises a vehicle-mounted air storage pipe capable of storing sufficient high-pressure compressed air and a cylinder combination engine which is composed of a first cylinder and a second cylinder, and is used for generating traveling power by fully utilizing the compressed air. The compressed air production and storage feeding mechanism comprises a boiler type high-pressure compressed air production and storage device and is used for producing and storing the high-pressure compressed air through night low valley electric energy, giving out heat simultaneously to be used for achieving central heating and conducting pressurizing air inflation on the vehicle-mounted air storage pipe. The braking energy recycling and regenerating device comprises a spring storage and release device and/or a compressed air storage and release device and can save the compressed air which is used as traveling power and stored in the air storage pipe. The inner gear ring assembly comprises an inner gear ring, acting gears, a first accelerating gear, a second accelerating gear, a flywheel front inner meshing gear and reset gears, wherein the acting gears, the first accelerating gear, the second accelerating gear, the flywheel front inner meshing gear and the reset gears are internally meshed with the inner gear ring. The inner gear ring assembly is used for transmitting torque and outputting power in a mixed mode. The controller controls all the devices and mechanisms to move collaboratively in order.
