The invention relates to a magneto-electric elevator speed governor. According to the principle that electric energy and magnetic energy are mutually convertible, a car of an elevator which is out of control is under control. The magneto-electric elevator speed governor comprises a signal acquisition part, a signal amplification part, a contactor actuating part, an electromagnetic drive part and a wedge part allowing a linkage to lift safety tongs; the problem that the mechanical speed governor of the elevator easily fails is emphatically solved. The magneto-electric elevator speed governor is suitable for sole use on each elevator installed in future so as to eliminate the mechanical speed governors in the elevators; the magneto-electric elevator speed governor is also suitable for modification on the elevators in operation. After added in a speed safeguard system of the existing elevator, the magneto-electric elevator speed governor which never mutually interferes with the system is compatible with the mechanical speed governor of the existing electrode, the speed limiting function of the elevator in operation is jointly exerted, and an additional protection is provided for the fall of the existing elevator.
