The invention relates to a traffic signal timing period dividing method based on vector analysis. Distribution differences and instability of traffic flows in different flow directions of an intersection are considered, a vector analysis model and algorithm are established to vectorize the traffic flow in each flow direction, and a algorithm for calculating period dividing points is designed aiming at the unstable periods of each flow direction which are relatively large in flow distribution difference, so that an important basis is provided for multi-period signal timing. According to a system benefit optimal principle, relatively reasonable periods are divided, and the integral delay of the intersection is reduced.
