The present invention relates to a rapid shutdown method for hybrid vehicle engine and a hybrid power system, wherein the rapid shutdown method comprises the following steps: (1) cutting off fuel supply to the engine; (2) applying counteractive machine torque T to the engine so as to decrease a engine rotating speed n; (3) when n equals to n3, decreasing T gradually and after a period of time t, T equals to zero, and n is greater than zero. The hybrid power system herein includes the engine, an integrated starter generator (ISG) motor and a controller, wherein the engine is in mechanical-drive connection with the ISG motor, the controller being in controlled connection with the engine and the ISG motor. The rapid shutdown method of the present invention ensures a smaller impact force on a torsion damper upon engine shutdown, thus effectively protecting torsion damper and engine and also increasing service lives of the torsion damper and the engine.
