The invention relates to a ship sailing method comprising the following steps: a navigation control system used for switching the course according to the fuel capacity of a ship is provided, wherein the navigation control system comprises a capacitive fuel sensor, a course fuel consumption calculator, a piece of user input equipment, a controller and a piece of ship driving equipment, the capacitive fuel sensor sends the current fuel capacity of the ship, the course fuel consumption calculator calculates the expected sailing fuel consumption of the current course and multiple alternative courses of the ship, and the controller is connected with the capacitive fuel sensor, the course fuel consumption calculator, the user input equipment and the ship driving equipment; and when the current fuel capacity is lower than the sailing control starting fuel capacity set by the user input equipment, the course switching strategy of the ship driving equipment is determined according to the result of comparison between the current fuel capacity and the expected sailing fuel consumption of the current course and the multiple alternative courses. By adopting the ship sailing method of the invention, when the current fuel capacity of a ship is not enough to support the current course, an alternative course with less fuel consumption is provided for continuing sailing of the ship.
