The present invention relates to a method for providing a clamping force that is generated by means of an automatic parking brake for a vehicle. The clamping force is generated by a brake piston and a brake motor acted on a brake disk. The method ensures the reliable running of the automatic parking brake even if the clamping force losts because of changeable temperature of the brake disk, and the method further minimizes loads of the automatic parking brake parts. A method includes building up a hydraulic pressure in a braking circuit of the vehicle after the automatic parking brake is applied. The method further includes determining a pressure loss gradient in the braking circuit of the vehicle. The method further includes performing or not performing a further application of the automatic parking brake based in part upon the determined pressure loss gradient.
