The invention discloses a bi-directional speed limiter with a pawl capable of being reset automatically. A base is provided with a rope sheave and a ratchet wheel in a coaxial rotating mode. Brake plate devices are arranged on the portions, at the two sides of the rope sheave, of the base. The pawl is assembled on one side of the sheave face of the rope sheave in a rotating mode. A pawl torsional spring is arranged between the pawl and the rope sheave. A pawl locating structure is assembled on the sheave face of the rope sheave in a rotating mode. A locating torsional spring is arranged between the pawl locating structure and the rope sheave. The ejector end of the pawl locating structure is matched with the pawl in an elastic ejector mode. Two gravity hammers are assembled on the sheave face of the rope sheave in a rotating mode. Tray disks are coaxially and fixedly arranged on the portion, away from the gravity hammers, of the wheel face of the ratchet wheel. Pushing teeth with the inclination direction consistent with that of wheel teeth of the ratchet wheel are arranged on the outer edge of the tray disks. A resetting device is fixed to the pawl and provided with a resetting slope, wherein the resetting slope is matched with the pushing teeth in a sliding and pushing mode after the pawl locks the ratchet wheel and when the ratchet wheel rotates reversely to enable the pawl to be reset. The pawl and the pawl locating structure do not need to be reset manually and can be used in an elevator without a machine room.
