Disclosed is an on board image generator for generating a composite image by using a plurality of viewpoint transformed images, wherein the onboard image generator is capable of minimizing image distortion and preventing blurring at the boundary between images. The onboard image generator is provided with a first camera (11) for capturing an image of the scene forward or rearward of a vehicle and a second and a third camera (12, 13) for capturing an image of the scene to the left and right sides of the vehicle. On the basis of the images captured up by the second and third cameras, the onboard image generator generates a set of viewpoint-converted images seen from a pair of virtual viewpoints (V2, V3) having axes of vision parallel to each other and differing from the visual axes of the individual cameras, generates a center image for composition purposes from the image captured up by the first camera, and disposes the set of viewpoint-converted images beside the center image, whereby a composite image is generated.
