The invention provides a novel gantry crane for a container. The novel gantry crane comprises a gantry frame 1, an outer-extending fork frame 3, a containing rotating device 4, cart operating mechanisms 5 and a folding platform, wherein the length directions of a main beam of the gantry frame 1 and the container are consistent; the outer-extending fork frame is used for supporting a trolley 2 with a lifting mechanism to operate; the container rotating device moves up and down with a lifting tool and along supporting legs; the cart operating mechanisms 5 are arranged at four corners and drive the whole crane to travel; the folding platform 6 can be used as a door and a platform. The novel gantry crane provided by the invention has the advantages that an original container stacking and loading-unloading mode is changed, the whole weight can be reduced, the wheel pressure can be reduced, the energy can be saved, the land utilization rate can be improved, and the cost for paving concrete on the ground of a container yard can be reduced. In addition, the invention also discloses a container stacking and loading-unloading mode of the crane.
