The invention discloses a lift car braking structure. The lift car braking structure comprises a lift car, lift guide rails and a lift controller. The lift guide rails include a guide rail and a band-type brake guide rail parallel to the guide rail. The lift car is provided with a guide rail band-type brake device corresponding to the band-type brake guide rail. The guide rail band-type brake device does brake releasing and braking actions according to output signals of the lift controller. The invention further discloses a braking method of the lift car braking structure. By means of the lift car braking structure, the lift car can be fixed to the band-type brake guide rail when the lift car stops during normal running, the lift car is prevented from moving, and shearing accidents are avoided; the lift car can be braked on the band-type brake guide rail when the lift car runs at an overspeed and becomes abnormal, the potential safety hazard that the lift car rushes to the top or squats to the bottom can be eliminated; meanwhile, the utilization frequency of lift safety tongs can be reduced, the guide rail abraded and clamped degree is reduced, and the overall service life of a lift system is prolonged.
