The invention relates to a ship running method which comprises the following steps of: supplying a navigation control system capable of switching lanes according to the fuel amount of a ship, wherein the navigation control system comprises a capacitance-type fuel quantity sensor, a lane fuel consumption calculator, user input equipment, a controller and ship driving equipment, the capacitance-type fuel quantity sensor is in charge of sending the current fuel amount of the ship, the lane fuel consumption calculator is in charge of calculating the expected navigation fuel consumption of the current lane and multiple alternate lanes of the ship, and the controller is respectively connected with the capacitance-type fuel quantity sensor, the lane fuel consumption calculator, the user input equipment and the ship driving equipment; and when the current fuel quantity is less than the navigation control starting fuel quantity set by the user input equipment, determining the lane switching strategy of the ship driving equipment according to the comparative result of the current oil consumption and the expected navigation fuel consumption of the current lane and multiple alternate lanes. According to the ship running method, under the condition that the current fuel quantity of the ship is insufficient to support the running of the current lane, alternate lanes with lower fuel consumption can be supplied for further running of the ship.
