The invention discloses a back off speed controlling method for a battery electric vehicle. When a vehicle control unit detects that the battery electric vehicle is backing off, and the battery electric vehicle is in a locked rotor condition or the distance between the battery electric vehicle and a rear object is smaller than a preset value, a motor controller is controlled to carry out a torque control on a driving motor, and meanwhile the revolving speed of the driving motor is limited below the preset value. Or a low speed reverse gear is added on the battery electric vehicle, under the low speed reverse gear, the torque control is carried out on the driving motor through the motor controller, and meanwhile the revolving speed of the driving motor is limited below the preset value. According to the back off speed controlling method for the battery electric vehicle, the probability of a collision accident when the battery electric vehicle is in the back off driving process can be greatly lowered or even can be avoided.
