The invention relates to a method and a device for reducing the water resistance of a ship. In particular, the invention relates to a method for reducing the bow wave that is produced by the hull (2) of a ship during travel. The method is characterized in that gas/water mixture is produced in front of the bow (4) of the hull, the gas preferably being air. The invention further relates to a device for reducing the bow wave of a ship during travel, the device being an apparatus for dispensing pressurized air. Said compressed air is dispensed to a suitable area at a suitable angle in front of and around the bow (4) of the ship.
