The invention discloses a method and a device for controlling a vehicle generator, and belongs to the field of automobile control. The method comprises the steps of detecting the current running state of the vehicle and controlling the power generation state of the generator in the vehicle, wherein the running state comprises at least one of the rotating speed, the running speed and the running speed state of the vehicle; the running speed state comprises one of a constant speed state, a deceleration state and an acceleration state; the power generation state comprises one of a normal power generation state, a low power generation state and an ultra-low power generation state. According to the method, the current running state of the vehicle is detected and the power generation state of the generator in the vehicle is controlled according to the current running state of the vehicle, and therefore, the output power of an engine to the generator can be reduced by changing the power generation state of the generator, and furthermore, the engine is enabled to input more output power to the driving system of the vehicle so as to increase the output power for driving; as a result, the consumption of the output power of the engine is reduced and the fuel economy of the vehicle is improved.
