The invention provides an elevator with a pulley groove diagnosing device which can raise reliability of an elevator system and can conveniently carry out pulley groove diagnosing. The elevator with the pulley groove diagnosing device comprises a safety control device which detects the speed and position of an elevator car according to pulse signals and determines whether over-speed occurs relative to the position of the elevator car. When the over-speed is determined to exist, the elevator car stops. The elevator with the pulley groove diagnosing device also comprises speed controller encoder which carries out doubling through a first system and a second system and inputs the various pulse signals into the safety controller, a position detector installed on the elevator car and detecting the position of the elevator car through detecting shielding plates installed on various floors of an elevating channel, a floor height data storing part generating the floor height data of the various floors when the elevator car rises or descends according to the position data when the position detector passes through the shielding plates. The floor height data of the various floors when the elevator car is rises or descends is initial data. The initial data is compared with floor height data generated subsequently, and abnormal wearing is determined to occur when a deviation value between the initial data and the floor height data exceeds a preset value.
