The invention provides a parachute working condition automatic detection system and a detection method thereof. The detection system comprises a travel switch, a first height annunciator, a second height annunciator and a controller. The detection method comprises the following steps: connecting a starting pull pin of the travel switch with a connection-separation mechanism of a main parachute in order to judge whether or not the main parachute is opened normally according to the switch-on/off state of the travel switch; after the main parachute is opened normally, estimating the falling speed of the main parachute in an opening-falling process through the time difference and the height difference between signals returns by the two height annunciators; judging whether or not the main parachute fails by comparing the speed value with a set thread value in order to realize automatic detection and failure judgment of the working condition of the parachute of a spacecraft. By adopting automatic detection method, the defects of manual detection judgment and remote control switching are overcome, failures of the main parachute are identified rapidly, a backup parachute can be started in time, and the safety of the spacecraft is ensured.
