The purpose of the present invention is to obtain a double-deck elevator capable of minimizing impact imparted to an upper car and a lower car after a counterweight has suddenly stopped during descent. A car device (5) has a main frame (7), an upper car (8) and a lower car (9) provided so as to be capable of vertical movement within the main frame (7), and a car suspension means (30) for suspending the upper car (8) and lower car (9) in a well bucket scheme in relation to the main frame (7). A stopper sheave (32a, 32b) is provided below the main frame (7). A flexible stopper funicular body (33a, 33b) is wound around the stopper sheave (32a, 32b). The stopper funicular body (33a, 33b) is connected to the upper car (8) on one side of the stopper sheave (32a, 32b) and is connected to the lower car (9) on the other side of the stopper sheave (32a, 32b).
