The present invention relates to a method to determine a time period for operating an anti-jerking damping of a motor vechile for operating a transmission having a manual switch. When a model of clutch slipping indicates that adhesion of a cluth of the motor vehicle exists, the anti-jerking damping operates, and when the model of the cluth slipping indidaces that slipping of the cluth exists, the anti-jerking damping does not operate. The method has the advantages that a physical decisive process is observed to activate and deactivate the anti-jerking damping. So the time period of the anti-jerking damping suitable for the activation can be accurately and reliably determined. The fact that the time period is determined by using the clutch switch in a traditional method canot be achieved according to the traditional method.
